FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ BOTOX

  • WHAT IS BOTOX?

    In our clinic, we use the brand Botox, the brand name for the active substance botulinum toxin. Several strains have been discovered. We work with the highest regarded variant: type A, which is the most potent. Many people do not know that Botox is a brand name and not a generic term. It’s like comparing “Spa Rood”; sometimes you get “Spa Rood”, sometimes Sourcy on a terrace. Thus, in other clinics, you might get something slightly different than the real Botox. In our opinion, not all botulinum toxin brands work equally well. Botox is the absolute top brand among botulinum toxins.

  • DOES THE TREATMENT HURT?

    While you relax in the treatment chair, our doctor injects the Botox with a super thin needle in the right places. You will feel it, but most people find it very bearable.

  • WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS OF A BOTOX TREATMENT?

    It takes an average of 3 to 4 days for the botulinum toxin to become effective. From that moment, the nerve stops producing acetylcholine. The first effect of Botox then becomes visible. The skin becomes calmer as the muscle can no longer contract. Wrinkles become less visible or disappear. After about 2 weeks, the maximum effect is visible.

  • HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?

    Botox lasts an average of 3 to even 9 months, depending on the area treated. Additionally, how long the effect lasts varies from person to person. Unfortunately, this is difficult to predict in advance. After this period, Botox gradually completely disappears from the body. The muscle can slowly contract again.

    If you use Botox more often, the effect is noticeable quicker and lasts longer. Therefore, make sure there is not too much time between treatments.

  • CAN BOTOX WEAR OFF TOO QUICKLY?

    Yes, that can happen. That’s why it’s important to follow our guidelines: no sports for 48 hours, no sauna or hammam for 1 week, no sunbathing for 1 week.

    Occasionally, someone may be getting sick without knowing it. Then, the body might mistake Botox for a harmful substance that needs to be eliminated. In this case, Botox works for a shorter duration. But also, people with a fast metabolism due to, for example, intensive sports can enjoy the treatment effects for a shorter time.

  • WHAT DOES A BOTOX TREATMENT COST?

    The cost of a treatment depends on the number of zones and the amount of Botox used in a zone. A standard zone (for example, your frown lines or crow’s feet) is €170. There are also smaller zones like a gummy smile or eyebrow lift, which use less Botox. The costs for these are €75. Then, there is also a sort of discount for multiple zones in one treatment, making two standard zones €290 instead of €340.

  • FOR WHICH WRINKLES IS BOTOX USED?

    Botox is used for wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, such as your crow’s feet and frown lines. But Botox also works very well for excessive sweating and migraines.

  • CAN I PREVENT WRINKLES BY USING BOTOX?

    In principle, you can delay wrinkles with the use of Botox. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by repeatedly contracting certain muscles. If you do this often enough, a wrinkle eventually forms. First a fine line, later it becomes deeper. By completely relaxing the muscle, the skin does not fold, preventing the wrinkle from forming. But a completely smooth, completely wrinkle-free face over thirty? We are especially charmed by a natural result. We think it’s beautiful when a face remains expressive.

  • WHAT SHOULD I NOT DO AFTER A BOTOX TREATMENT?

    After the treatment, you can return to work without any issues. Usually, there’s nothing visible on your skin after the treatment. Occasionally, there might be some redness or a bump at the injection site. Very rarely, a bruise may appear; stay out of the sun until it has faded. Furthermore, we advise the following:

    – Avoid pressure on the treated area for 1 hour;

    – Apply makeup only after 1 hour;

    – Do not exercise for at least 48 hours;

    – Avoid sauna or hammam for at least a week;

    – Do not sunbathe extensively. A little sun is fine, but then use SPF or sun protection. That’s a good idea against skin aging anyway.

FAQ Fillers

  • WHAT ARE FILLERS? WHAT ARE THEY MADE OF?

    A filler is a liquid, transparent gel used for wrinkles and folds caused by the aging process. It is used to fill in wrinkles in the skin and restore volume. Most fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, a

     substance also naturally found in your body.

  • WHO IS ALLOWED TO INJECT FILLERS?

    In principle, fillers may only be injected by a doctor or by a nurse under the supervision of a doctor. At our clinic, only a doctor performs injections.

  • HOW LONG DO FILLERS LAST?

    How long the effect of a filler lasts depends on several factors. A thicker filler is broken down by the body more slowly than a thinner filler. The choice between a thin or thicker filler is based on the area to be treated. Fillers placed directly on the bone, such as on the cheekbone or chin, are thicker than fillers injected more superficially, like lip fillers or a skin booster. Additionally, everyone has a different metabolism and cell renewal rate, so the filler may break down faster in some than in others. But to give an indication, thicker fillers last about 12-18 months and thinner fillers about 6-12 months.

  • DO FILLERS HAVE SIDE EFFECTS?

    The fillers we use are completely safe. Occasionally, redness, a small swelling, or a bruise may occur. This generally disappears quickly. In the rare case that a bump that cannot be massaged away forms, it can be resolved by injecting a small amount of hyaluronidase (a hyaluronic acid solvent).

  • CAN I GO IN THE SUN WITH FILLERS?

    Being outside is not a problem. However, we recommend using an SPF, which is a good idea anyway to prevent skin aging and damage. If a bruise appears, stay out of the sun until it has faded. Going into the sun could turn the spot into a pigment mark. This applies to all bruises, not just those that may occur from an injectable treatment.

  • WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

    Since 2015, permanent fillers for beauty reasons are no longer allowed. The fillers used by Coonen Clinic (Juvéderm, Belotero, and Radiesse) are temporary fillers. They are of the highest quality and proven safe. These fillers are gradually broken down by your body over time, unlike permanent fillers that do not disappear on their own.

OTHER QUESTIONS

  • CAN I PARK IN FRONT OF THE DOOR?

    There is a reserved parking space for clients of our clinic behind the building. If it is occupied, you can also park a bit further at the riding school (along the white wall). We have arranged this with the riding school, so if they ask, you can say that you are visiting Coonen Clinic.

  • CAN I BE TREATED IN THE EVENING OR ON THE WEEKEND?

    Our opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. On Monday, we are open until 10:00 pm. In principle, we do not treat outside these hours.

  • CAN I PAY IN INSTALLMENTS?

    Unfortunately, that is not possible.

  • I HAVE A COMPLAINT. WHAT CAN I DO?

    Unfortunately, it may happen that you are not satisfied with a treatment at our clinic. Of course, we take any complaint very seriously and prefer to hear in a personal conversation what you are dissatisfied with, so we can find a solution together. If you do not want that, you can also fill out a complaint form that you can request from us via info@coonenkliniek.nl.

  • IS THERE A RISK OF COMPLICATIONS?

    Every treatment has risks. Since we do not work with permanent fillers, the risks are (almost) always temporary. During the consultation before the treatment, our doctor always explains the risks of the chosen treatment so you can make an informed decision.
